USC Thornton Symphony: Opening Gala for Piatigorsky International Cello Festival

Carl St.Clair leads the USC Thornton Symphony in the Opening Gala of the 2020 Piatigorsky International Cello Festival. The performance includes Beethoven's Egmont Overture and Strauss's Don Quixote featuring acclaimed cellist Mischa Maisky and distinguished violist and Thornton faculty member Yura Lee. PICF '20 Recital Gala

The Recital Gala features festival cellists performing works of Schumann, Mendelssohn, and Brahms. A pre-concert talk, presented by American cellist Jeffrey Solow, will begin at 7:00pm. Cellists: Chiara Enderle Samatanga, David Geringas, Frans Helmerson, Antonio Lysy, Mischa Maisky, Andrew Shulman, Laura van der Heijden, Quirine Viersen, and Raphael Wallfisch. Pianists: Bernadene Blaha, Jujo Pohjonen, and Robert Thies.

PICF '20 Piatigorsky Festival Orchestra

The Piatigorsky Festival Orchestra, comprised primarily of faculty members and former students of the USC Thornton School of Music, performs works of Vivaldi, Weinberg, Sallinen, Sollima and Costanzi. Vivaldi: Concerto for two cellos in g minor, RV 531(Jens Peter Maintz and Schmidt); Weinberg: Concertino(Raphael Wallfisch); Sallinen: Nocturnal Dances of Don Juan Quixote (Zlatomir Fung); Sollima: Violoncelles vibrez! (Sollima, Istvan Vardai, and SAKURA); Costanzi: Concerto in G major (Giovanni Sollima); Costanzi: Concerto in F major (Giovanni Sollima)
